5 Sourdough Recipes for Thanksgiving!

Here are a few delicious sourdough recipes that would elevate your Thanksgiving table.

1. Sourdough Bread Stuffing

Ingredients:

• 8 cups cubed sourdough bread (day-old or lightly toasted)

• 1 cup unsalted butter

• 1 large onion, chopped

• 3 celery stalks, chopped

• 3 garlic cloves, minced

• 1 tbsp fresh sage, chopped (or 1 tsp dried)

• 1 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped (or 1 tsp dried)

• 1 cup chicken or vegetable stock

• 2 eggs, beaten

• Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. Sauté onion, celery, and garlic in butter until softened. Add sage and thyme.

3. Toss the sautéed mixture with cubed sourdough in a large bowl.

4. Stir in stock and eggs until everything is evenly moistened.

5. Spread in a greased baking dish and bake for 30–35 minutes until golden.

2. Sourdough Dinner Rolls

Ingredients:

• 1 cup active sourdough starter

• 3 cups all-purpose flour

• 1/2 cup whole milk

• 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

• 2 tbsp sugar

• 1 tsp salt

Instructions:

1. Mix all ingredients in a large bowl until a sticky dough forms.

2. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise for 6–8 hours.

3. Divide into 12 pieces, shape into rolls, and let rise on a greased baking sheet for 2–3 hours.

4. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes or until golden.

3. Sourdough Pumpkin Pie

Ingredients:

Crust:

• 1 cup sourdough discard

• 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

• 1/2 cup cold butter

• 1 tsp salt

Filling:

• 1 can (15 oz) pumpkin puree

• 1 cup heavy cream

• 2 large eggs

• 3/4 cup brown sugar

• 1 tsp cinnamon

• 1/2 tsp nutmeg

Instructions:

1. Mix sourdough discard, flour, butter, and salt to form a dough. Chill for 1 hour.

2. Roll out and fit into a pie pan. Pre-bake at 375°F (190°C) for 10 minutes.

3. Whisk together filling ingredients and pour into crust.

4. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 45–50 minutes until the center is set.

4. Sourdough Cranberry Orange Loaf

Ingredients:

• 1 cup active sourdough starter

• 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

• 1/2 cup sugar

• 1/2 cup fresh orange juice

• Zest of 1 orange

• 1 cup fresh cranberries

• 1 tsp baking soda

• 1 tsp salt

Instructions:

1. Mix starter, flour, sugar, orange juice, and zest into a dough. Fold in cranberries.

2. Let rise for 6–8 hours or overnight.

3. Shape into a loaf and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 35–40 minutes.

5. Sourdough Gravy

Ingredients:

• 1/4 cup sourdough discard

• 2 tbsp unsalted butter

• 2 cups turkey drippings or stock

• Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. Melt butter in a saucepan. Whisk in sourdough discard until smooth.

2. Slowly add turkey drippings or stock while whisking constantly.

3. Simmer until thickened, then season with salt and pepper.

These recipes combine the tangy, rich flavor of sourdough with classic Thanksgiving dishes.
